FOSTER CARER ALLOWANCE

All foster carers get an allowance to cover the cost of caring for a child in their home and also get paid in recognition of their skills, commitment or time. These allowances include provision for food, which includs school meals, household costs e.g. heating, electricity, general wear and tear, clothing and footwear, pocket money and travel costs.

Foster carers are free to spend the allowance on food, household and travel expenses as they feel benefit the child most. The carers receive additional payments for other essential items for birthdays and Christmas.

The benefits of Foster Care are mostly not effect as long as they are fostering.

DO FOSTER CARER PAY INCOME TAX?

Many foster carers now pay no tax on their earnings from fostering. Foster carers can be exempt from tax on all or most of their fostering income depending on: how many children they look after, whether or not it is a full tax year, whether or not there are other foster carers in the same household. ON-GOING TRAINING FOR FOSTER CARERS

All foster carers are reviewed every year and receive any training that is needed to ensure they can continue fostering. They get regular visits from their own supervising social worker who offers advice and support.
